I wanted to drop a note about a fantastic event in your neck of the woods.
Can't Stop the Serenity is a worldwide tour of Joss Whedon's sci fi flick, Serenity. It's one of my faves and has an intense cult following. Based on Whedon's short lived but passionately loved show, Firefly, there is action, witty reparte, challenged love, scary bad guys and the best damn heroes money can buy.
All proceeds from the tour go to Joss Whedon's favorite charity, Equality Now, which, among a ton of other things:
Distributes information about human rights violations
Takes action to protest these violations
Brings public attention to human rights violations against women.
The goal this year is to raise $150,000.
The screenings are a ton of fun and go to support a great cause, and this month there is gonna be one in Leicester - 18th of July. Below is the link for more info and to book tix. There are still lots of seats available, which is not good when you are trying support a cause, right? Tickets cost only Five pounds fifty, which is a great price for such a good time.

So go! And tell me how it is, because I missed my local one this year! Sad.
Read all the info - there are drawings and a costume contest, plus merchandise for sale, for avid fangeeks like me!

To UK Covenspacers: Can't Stop the Serenity
AND, I'm back....
I haven't been around much... er, at ALL, for the last month or so, and there are about a billion reasons why. Just wrapped up the semester last week, and those last few weeks of taking finals and administering them, of reading papers and writing them, can really just drain the life out of you. I am a grad school zombie. But it was worth it. Two more semesters to go and I am done with this place. Then I will leave the politics of this department for the new (to me) politics of a new department (I don't care where, as long as the pay and the view are better.) And all this studying has pleased my little four legged friends, who know exactly where they can find me: in front of the computer, where they burrow into my robe, or reading in bed, where they curl up under the blankets. Ahhh, winter break.
And, of course, there is also bad news. Another reason I haven't spent too much time around here lately is that the boyfriend and I have been having out the last of the.... whatever you want to call it.... and we've decided it's time to end it. And... well, it hurts, you know? I think it hurts me a lot more than it hurts him, which is one of the things we've been having out. But it's over now and it's all for the best, and I think I'm gonna be ok. So It's a good time to be here, among new friends, right?
I'm going to insert a photo from my thesis project, something fitting with the winter solstice and yule and all. I took this in Scotland when I was there last January, and I think it fits what I'm feeling now: small and in awe of the world around me, and of the powers that I find inside and outside of myself.
New member exploring!
My introductory blog post:
I actually joined last month but haven't had a second to post. I'm a very solitary pagan, interested in exploring who I am spiritually. I was raised pentacostal christian, so while I've associated myself as a pagan for many years, it's been something I've been exploring quietly and slowly. Part Scottish, I'm very interested in the beliefs and practices of my ancestors. Also interested in herbalism and kicthen witchery.
In the mundane world: I'm a fine art photographer with a small commercial business. I'm getting a masters of fine art degree from CSUN. I have too many cats. I practice and teach martial arts.

I finally remembered to log in! :) I've spent more time on Facebook than anywhere, actually. How are you doing? It is Autumn here already, in my town - we had Mabon early this year! Hopefully Winter will come early too, and we'll actually get some rain this year! I hope things are going well for you. Brightest Blessings!!!!
